Every lesson is one-to-one, so we work on what you need, at your pace.
Complete beginners
Never played? You’ll be playing simple grooves along to real music, and reading the basics, within a couple of lessons.
Returning players
Played years ago and want to get back into it properly? We’ll shake off the rust and fix the habits that held you back.
Improvers and advanced
Technique, creativity, groove, coordination, speed, control: whatever’s holding your playing back, we’ll work on it.
Bands, gigs and recording
Joining a band or heading into the studio? We’ll get you playing to a click and locking in with other musicians.
Simple, flexible, no commitment
£40 for a one-hour, one-to-one lesson.
That’s it: no packages, no block bookings, no contracts.
Book a lesson when it suits you, whether that’s weekly, fortnightly or whenever life allows, and pay as you go.

Martyn James
I’ve been playing drums for over 30 years and teaching from my studio in Widcombe for more than 20. Along the way I spent three years as Course Director of the Rhythmfest summer school, and I’m proud to be an endorsed artist with Paiste, Vic Firth, Mapex and Protection Racket.
I teach the way I’d want to be taught: practical, encouraging, and built around the music you actually want to play.
A proper studio, five minutes from the city centre
Lessons take place in my private, fully equipped studio in Widcombe, Bath. Mapex kit, Paiste cymbals and full recording facilities.
