Privacy policy
Last updated: October 2026
This policy explains what personal information Bath Drum Studio collects, why, and what your rights are. It applies to this website, bathdrumstudio.co.uk, and to enquiries and lessons.
Who I am
Bath Drum Studio is run by me, Martyn James, a sole trader based in Widcombe, Bath. I’m the “controller” of your personal information, which means I decide how it’s used and I’m responsible for looking after it.
If you have any questions about this policy or your information, contact me:
- Email: martyn@bathdrumstudio.co.uk
- WhatsApp: 07977 461130
What I collect and why
When you send an enquiry
If you use the enquiry form, I collect your name, email address, phone number, age bracket, playing experience and anything you write in your message. I use this to reply to you and arrange lessons.
I ask for an age bracket because I teach students aged 16 and over, and I only teach younger students by personal arrangement. For students under 18, I may also ask for a parent or guardian’s contact details.
Lawful basis: taking steps at your request before providing lessons, and my legitimate interest in responding to enquiries.
When you contact me by WhatsApp or email
If you message me on WhatsApp or by email, I’ll receive your name, number or email address, and whatever you send. I use this to reply and arrange lessons. WhatsApp is run by WhatsApp LLC (part of Meta), and email by my email provider, [provider], so their own privacy policies also apply to those messages.
Lawful basis: my legitimate interest in replying to messages, and providing lessons you’ve booked.
When you have lessons
If you become a student, I keep your contact details, the dates of your lessons, payment records and, where useful, brief notes on your progress so I can plan your lessons.
Lawful basis: providing the lessons you’ve asked for, and my legal obligation to keep financial records.
When you use this website
Cookies and analytics. With your consent, I use Google Analytics to understand how visitors use the site, such as which pages are visited and how people found the site. It sets cookies in your browser and sends information about your visit to Google. You can accept or reject these cookies using the banner when you first visit, and change your choice at any time using the cookie settings link in the footer. Cookies that are strictly necessary for the site to work, including the one that remembers your cookie choice, are always on.
Lawful basis: your consent for analytics cookies.
Videos. The videos on this site are hosted on YouTube. They don’t load until you click play. When you do, YouTube (Google) receives information such as your IP address, and may set cookies. I use YouTube’s privacy-enhanced mode, which limits this.
Fonts. This site’s fonts are loaded from Google Fonts, so your browser sends your IP address to Google to download them. Google says it doesn’t use this to identify individuals.
Hosting. The website is hosted by Kinetic Pulse, whose servers record standard technical information such as IP addresses in server logs, for security and to keep the site running.
Who I share your information with
I don’t sell your information or share it for marketing. The only other organisations that handle it are the services I use to run the business:
- Kinetic Pulse, which hosts the website and stores enquiry form submissions
- Google, for analytics (if you consent), YouTube videos and fonts
- WhatsApp (Meta), if you contact me through them
I may also share information if the law requires it.
Some of these companies are based in the United States. Where information is transferred outside the UK, it’s protected by safeguards approved under UK data protection law, such as the UK–US data bridge or standard contractual clauses.
How long I keep it
- Enquiries that don’t lead to lessons: deleted within 12 months
- Students’ contact details and lesson notes: kept while you’re having lessons, and deleted within 12 months after your last lesson
- Payment and financial records: kept for as long as HMRC requires, currently at least 5 years after the 31 January tax return deadline for the relevant tax year
- Analytics data: 14 months
Your rights
Under UK data protection law, you have the right to:
- ask for a copy of the information I hold about you
- ask me to correct anything that’s wrong
- ask me to delete your information
- ask me to restrict how I use it, or object to me using it
- ask for your information in a format you can take elsewhere
- withdraw your consent at any time, where I rely on consent (for example, analytics cookies)
To use any of these rights, contact me using the details above. I’ll respond within one month. There’s no charge in most cases.
Complaints
If you’re unhappy with how I’ve handled your information, please tell me first and I’ll do my best to put it right. You also have the right to complain to the Information Commissioner’s Office (ICO):
- Website: ico.org.uk
- Helpline: 0303 123 1113
Changes to this policy
I’ll update this page if anything changes, and change the date at the top.
